Today, that Year!

Dil hai ki Maanta Nahin (DHKMN) was released today on 12th July 1991 in Metro cinema, Mumbai. Sorry folks, no multiplexes then 😀

Lets recall...

DHKMN was a musical Rom-com starring the QSQT (please Google 😀) heartthrob Aamir Khan, newcomer Pooja Bhatt and veteran actor Anupam Kher (cannot forget Tiku Talsania).

Loosely inspired from 'It Happened One Night' (1934), Bhatt Saab ensured to add the required desi touch and 'masala' to the plot for his audience through a fresh young pair - Aamir and Pooja (who sadly never teamed up again).

Pooja played a Richie rich heiress on the run from her (almost) eccentric father (Anupam Kher) while Aamir Khan played the street smart journalist - Raghu Jaitley. Pooja runs away from home to be with her boyfriend. On her way she bumps into Raghu, who strikes a deal to escort her (to her boyfriend) in return for her exclusive story. Eventually they fall for each-other.

The melodious numbers (composed by the then successful Duo - Nadeem-Shravan), Aamir-Pooja's super cool chemistry, Anupam Kher's funny comic, a touch of some more laughs by Tiku Talsania and a hilarious climax in the end, made the movie a super hit with Silver Jubilee feather on its hat. (Sorry again folks, no 100/200/300 Crs business then!)

Aamir was flawless in his role (as always), and it certainly is amongst Pooja's top three performances - the other two being Daddy (1990) and Sadak (1991).

The film completes 29 years today. Stream it, if you haven't watched yet. Surely an entertainer in this Lockdown.
